Designers are experts at making spaces work more efficiently. But the interiors created by Kathleen Navarra for the 2015 San Francisco Decorator Showcase, was what the designer called a true “test of proportions.” Her design unites the functions of a family room, kitchen, breakfast nook, desk command center and even a pet bed into a 525-square-foot flowing and effortless space.
With a space awash with natural light, Navarra felt free to play with saturated shades, choosing a rich brown grass cloth for the walls. From the kitchen to the family room, a shiny marble mosaic from Walker Zanger “creates a subtle continuity between the rooms while adding texture and a bit of sparkle,” Navarra says.
One stunning feature, a verre églomisé backsplash with a whimsical dandelion pattern, is doubly glamorous when paired with the chocolate brown enamel La Corune range. The ceiling is painted a high-gloss Benjamin Moore teal blue, taking its cue from the drapery fabrics and adding delicious depth to the space.
