Designer Crush: Brittaney Elise

Who is your biggest role model?

So tough for me to pick just one! In so many lights of life: both my parents.

Which movie or play do you wish you could have designed the set for?

ABC’s "Once Upon a Time."

What is the best way to gauge a client’s personality before starting a project?

First, I do my research! Next, I engage — I like to ask my clients a series of questions during our first meeting together that help me understand their personal lifestyle and preferences; by engaging organically and learning their likes versus dislikes, I am able to gain a better understanding of their personality. Then there’s just the vibe — afterall, everything is energy!

What new design trends are you excited to integrate into your work?

I’m really into the farmhouse trend right now — but I like to keep my own spin on things, striving to keep in line with chic minimalism (black-white-and-gray-everything, please!) and always an eclectic or slightly glam/luxe touch in the details.

How do you completely unwind?

I feel like a glass of wine and candlelight is so cliche, but Santal26 and Sauvignon Blanc literally call me by name at the end of a long day.

If you hadn't become a designer, which career would you have pursued?

A lawyer, without question. I’ve seen every episode of nearly every legal saga you can think of and anyone who really knows me will stand behind by argumentative ability (it’s definitely a talent) but my creative mind and heart would have eaten me alive by now if I’d pursued the attorney journey.

What’s the worst pre-designer job you’ve ever had and why?

A ‘model’ greeter at an Abercrombie & Fitch store — I lasted maybe three days.

What’s your favorite recipe?

I secretly love getting down in the kitchen — I really wish I had more time for it! I’ve got a pretty easy and super yummy spinach + chicken Enchilada recipe that’s always been hit. And then there’s my sweet potato souffle and truffle mac and cheese that only comes out for Thanksgiving and Christmas — to-die-for-delicious!
